Vive Mexico!

I am a little behind in posting, but we vacationed to Rivera Maya in Mexico the first week of July. And well, I am sad to say we're back to the normal routine of waking up, working, dinner, TV/outdoor time and sleep. Oh how I miss the vacation life of sitting by the pool/beach for 8 hours. It was amazing. We stayed at an All-Inclusive-Adults Only resort. It was just perfect. A majority of the time was spent in a lounge chair next to the pool under a grass hut. Thank goodness for shade and 60 SPF or we would have been fried to a crisp. That Mexican SUN is Hot. Oh and lets not forget the humidity. Why did I even feel the need to bring a hair straightener...it went wavy 10 minutes after leaving the room. Oh well- who cares it is just vacation right!?!

They boyfriend was super at taking pictures. He didn't take as many as Europe last year, but managed to take around 500. Interesting since we were at the resort most of the time. Anyways- he is great at documenting our vacations. We decided to do a couple of excursions while on vacay. On Tuesday we visited Chitzen Itza. It pretty much rained the entire day. We bought $3 ponchos to keep our clothes dry and took the hotel umbrella with us. Overall it was an okay adventure. I am not sure I would need to revisit the place. It just isn't my thing. After visiting the ruins they took us to a natural watering hole that supports the locals. I guess it is their main water supply and they let people swim in it? i was not impressed but I think they stopped to get people into the town.
Thursday was the next day lined up for an excursion. The boyfriend was so excited for deep sea fishing. He was hoping that he would catch a big fish and take it back to the US. I supported his dream but honestly didn't want to deal with customs. Anyways the fishing boats had not been out in 2 days because of the rain. So guess what that could mean for the sea ... 2 days after a storm? BIG WAVES. 15 minutes after leaving the dock and we're out in open sea...I was sitting down, bent over with my head between my knees. I asked the nice Mexican man on our boat to pass me the puke bucket. He smiled, laughed, and passed the bucket. It remained next to me for 2-1/2 hours.  Fortunately I did not throw up. The boyfriend and I were down on the lower level of the boat and the guy working the reels started throwing them out with big 'grouper' for bait. After about 30 mins of trolling in the water...a very smart Barracuda bit the line. The boyfriend grabbed the 'reel belt' (i have no idea the real name for it), put it around his waist and grabbed the reel. He brought in a big 45 lbs Barracuda. Let me tell you, it is the ugliest fish I have even seen. They have have nasty teeth that stick out. When he started reeling in the fish, I panicked because I was so nauseous and I didn't think I'd be able to get any pictures. But I sucked it up, opened the camera and took about 10 pictures within a minute. I knew if I didn't get pictures, the boyfriend would be really disappointed. Unfortunately the Barracuda is the only fish that they will reel in…but later discard. I guess it is poisonous and people should not eat it. BUMMER. After the boyfriend caught his fish it was the next person’s turn… we ventured to the top of the boat for some fresh air, I still wanted to die. The other lady on the boat also got sick and asked to be taken back to the dock. Thank God. So we were able to fish for about 2-1/2 hours. The boyfriend and I went back to the resort to relax. I am glad he was able to catch something and so thankful that he was not upset about leaving early! Nothing is worse than a seasick girlfriend. :)
We spent the rest of the trip on the beach and in the pool. Ahh complete relaxation. I can’t wait to go back. Thanks Jon and Erica for a wonderful recommendation!!!

Tom and I did not go deep sea fishing in the Caribbean, but we did go fishing. I am not a fisher. I was lounging around the boat. Then the staff started hooking fish and letting me reel them in. It was torture on my arms. I can't imagine reeling in a Barracuda!
